I have fond memories of cendol. As a kid, Mum would reward me with this delightful dessert whenever I’m well-behaved. A bowl of cendol never fail to bring back those childhood memories.

Whenever I’m back in Melaka, I’ll stop by Jonker 88 for their durian chendol. I love the thick, syrupy gula melaka and pungent durian puree. You can opt for the normal cendol if you don’t fancy this strong-smelling fruit.

I tried the sago gula melaka when I was there yesterday. It was pretty good – well-chilled and generously topped with coconut milk and gula melaka.

Jonker 88 also has a selection of laksa, and light snacks like rojak and pie tee.

This place is self-service and is usually packed on weekends. If you can, come early to avoid the crowd.
